A Troll percussionist: he actually played tuned rocks rather than conventional drums, leading to the term Music With Rocks In. He met Glod Glodsson and Imp y Celyn at the Musicians' Guild when all three of them were there to get guild licenses. They then created The Band With Rocks In, Lias taking the stage name "Cliff", and Imp becoming "Buddy".

- Lias is the Irish Gaelic word for "stone". Or perhaps "Rock".
- blue lias is a geological phenomenon, and Lias' name also resonates nicely with Blue Lias, a troll bar mentioned in Moving Pictures
- It is interesting to note that Lias is so far the only troll in the Discworld series to be given a stated last name.
